P.Thane McLennan: 27 December 1946 - 2 April 2015

McLENNAN, Philip Thane Age 68. Thane died suddenly and unexpectedly while cycling with friends on the Sunshine Coast near Halfmoon Bay on their annual Easter trip. Thane was born in Sackville, NB, the son of Philip and Laura McLennan, and leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles in Atlantic Canada. Thane is survived by his brothers David, John and Donald McLennan; nieces Carol, Jennifer, Malina and Zoe; and nephew Mark. Thane also leaves behind many friends in the Lower Mainland. We will all greatly miss his indefatigable and unique presence. Thane attended Queen's University and graduated engineering in 1969. He migrated to BC where he worked for many years in the Duthie Books organization. Lately Thane had been enjoying work surveying in and around the Lower Mainland. Thane had a deep interest and commitment to all things spiritual, had a strong meditation practice, and hopefully now has the answers to the many questions that drove his passion for things beyond the rational. He loved to read, do the Cryptic, play tennis and cycle–he died outdoors doing what he loved. His last words to friends on the cycle trip were, "I think the birds are singing to me." He loved birds, so when you hear the spring chorus you can think of Thane. Thane was one of a kind, set his own path and lived life completely with an open heart and mind. Thane loved and accepted all who he met and all who met him were touched by him. His sudden passing is a tremendous shock to family and friends alike. We will be having a Wake for Thane at his place on Friday, April 10, 2015 after 3:00 p.m. Please come by and help send him off on his next journey.
